This is a preowned custom defarbed reproduction of a Sarson and Roberts Civil War contract musket.  The lock is marked US/New York/1862 which is exactly as the originals are marked.  There were only 5,140 of the originals made making them very rare.  The barrel has the date of 1862 with the VP Eagle stamping but no other markings.  The rear sight is of high quality with properly marked yard elevations.  The butt plate has the U.S. stamped on the tang.  The under side of the barrel has the Euroarms manufacturers mark and proof marks.  The inside of the lock has no markings.  The side of the stock opposite the lock has two inspector's cartouches.  The fit and finish of the walnut stock and metal parts is excellent.  The musket has not been fired.  The stock is in excellent condition.  The story is that the previous owner purchased this musket from The Horse Soldier in Gettysburg, Pa. at some point in the past.  If your looking for a very nice reproduction musket that has been defarbed and has a very rare lock marking this may be want you want.  Additional photos are available upon request.
