This is an original 69 caliber smoothbore New England militia flintlock musket. The overall length is 55 1/2" with a 40" barrel and a 13 1/2" trigger pull. The weight is 8 lbs. The overall condition is good. The walnut stock has a crack about half way up the butt plate that extends laterally about 3" forward. It appears to be a aging crack and can easily be repaired. The balance of the stock is in very good condition. The lock is marked J. COOPER and appears to have been reconverted back to flint from percussion. The barrel has no markings other than a small U.S. on the left side of the breech opposite the lock. The barrel also appears to have been reconverted to flint by welding the area where the drum thread would normally go. The bore is dark with some pitting but overall in fair condition. The exterior metal is in good condition with very light pitting in a few spots. Overall a nice representative example of early 19th century militia muskets that were made up of a variety of components from different sources. Additional photos are available upon request.
