This an original antique 24 gauge, nominally .580, double barrel percussion shotgun make in Hildburghausen, Germany. The overall length is 46" with a 31" barrel and a 13 7/8" trigger pull on the right barrel, 13" on the left trigger. The weight is 6.8 lbs. The bores are lightly pitted and dark. The walnut stock has a relief carving of a stag as well as incised carvings. The german silver furniture is engraved as well. Both locks function correctly and the right barrel has a set trigger. One of the locks is marked possibly" M.A. Gmeiner" and the other "in Hildburghausen". The top of the barrels has inlaid in gold possibly H. H. Handel. The german script is difficult to decipher. There is a break in the stock in the lock area that has been repaired at some point in the past. Overall this is a very attractive piece and would make a nice addition to an early European collection. Additional photos are available upon request that will show much more detail.
