The 1842 Springfield musket was originally manufactured in smoothbore and later a rifled barrel was used to allow for the use of the newly developed Mini Ball. It was the first US musket produced with a percussion lock to eliminate the variables and sometimes inconsistent ignition of the flintlock, especially with inclement weather. This rifle features a 42” barrel in the white with a fixed front sight and folding leaf rear sight secured to the stock with three metal bands. The walnut stock has a hand-oiled finish.
