BONE TIPPED & BANDED HORNS VOL. II Regional Characteristics of Professionally Made Powder Horns. by Jay Hopkins. Hardbound, 11” x 8-1/2”, 313 pages. The groundbreaking aim of this three volume study is to document the horn making areas of primarily the Southern states from 1750-1850. In contrast to gun makers and furniture makers who on occasion signed their work, the “horners” rarely did, thus making the drawing of conclusions much more speculative. The author has spent more than 50 years on this project. He has been greatly assisted by other collectors and institutions in putting together this three volume series with nearly 400 reasonably documented powder horns, and over 1500 illustrations. Volume I focused on Virginia. This volume features horns thought to be from North Carolinas, Tennessee, Kentucky, South Carolina, Georgia, Louisiana and Texas. Beautiful full color photographs throughout with multiple angles of each horn. No. 703546
