Tennessee or Southern Mountain Rifle Stock. The Tennessee rifle is popular today for the same reasons that made it popular nearly 200 years ago...simplicity, economy, accuracy and dependability.
An off shoot of the Pennsylvania rifles, the classic Tennessee rifle was made in the Southern Highlands by local gunsmiths from materials available nearby. Usually iron mounted, most Tennessee rifles were a study in efficiency, with all unnecessary items being omitted.
