This is a beautiful handmade flintlock swivel breech by renowned gun builder Art Holly. Mr. Holly was one of the early builders in the contemporary longrifle culture. He is known for his fine craftsmanship and teaching ability.

This wonderful swivel breech is stocked in a high grade curly maple stock with tight stripes the entire length of the 48" stock. The wood is stained in a golden brown tone accentuating the figure of the wood. The engraved, nickel silver mounts have a warm patina that complement the color of the stock nicely. The right side of the rifle has seven inlays along the barrel, one behind the lock mortise and an ornate patchbox with three piercings on the finial and two piercings on each wing. The left side houses the ramrod in round nickel silver thimbles and has a panel inlay with wire accent ahead of the pan and frizzen, an inlay behind the lock panel, a 2-1/4" floral cheek inlay surrounded by an oval frame and a vent pick holder below the cheek piece (the vent pick is absent). The cheek rest is accented by well executed Rococo relief carving beginning at the buttplate extending below the cheek rest and up toward the wrist. The nickel silver buttplate which houses the push button for the patch box release has five flats and wedding bands at the top of the return. 4-1/4" high and 1-3/4" wide. The Decorative toeplate is 4-1/4" long nicely engraved and has one piercing. The single trigger is surrounded by a nickle silver guard with a triangle accent at the back of the bow.

The 7/8" octagonal barrels are 33" long  and have the side flat filed smooth starting 12" from the breech to the muzzle adding a pleasing detail. Each barrel has a flat top Kentucky style rear sight and a blade front sight. The barrels are finished in a smooth plum brown color.

The lock is simply engraved with a dot border and a few simple accent lines. The pan & frizzen portion of the lock is plain with no engraving. The lock is finished in the same plum brown as the barrels. The lock functions properly but the frizzens do not spark and more than likely needs to be hardened.The swivel mechanism functions as it should, lines up properly and tightly.The brass lock plate is engraved with a border surrounding the release to swivel the barrels.

The rifle weighs 10.8 pounds. Length of pull is 14"
