H&B FORGE SHIP BUILDER’S AXE A shipwright’s tool, the ship builder’s axe came in a variety of shapes and sizes. The shape of the blade depended on the function of the axe. The edge of the blade was either straight or curved, most being curved; The angle of the blade also varied depending on whether hard or softer wood was to be cut. A thinner blade was required for the hardest woods. Ours also has a hammer poll as did many of the originals. The head is 4” across the the cutting edge and 6” across the top of the blade, weighs about 1.5 pounds and takes a 19” handle. Forged in Ohio.      No.  76370
